Hyderabad HC to Telangana government: Explain buildings around Hussain Sagar

The bench told the AG to file the affidavit by explaining the orders of the Supreme Court.

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad High Court on Tuesday asked the Telangana government to file an affidavit explaining the orders of the Supreme Court prohibiting construction around the Hussain Sagar Lake.

A division bench comprising of Acting Chief Justice Ramesh Ranganathan and Justice T. Rajani were addressing a petition filed by M.Sasidhar Reddy, former Congress MLA, seeking to direct the state government to not permit the construction activity around the Hussain Sagar Lake as per the order of the Supreme Court.

The petitioner’s counsel argued that despite the Supreme Court's orders, the government had allowed the construction of double bedroom houses in Ambedkar Nagar area adjacent to the Lake.

Mr K. Ramakrishna Reddy, advocate general of Telangana State told the court that Ambedkar Nagar was a slum and the land belonged to the government and it had been given to construct houses for the poor. He said that he was unable to understand the petitioner's objections as the government had constructed the houses for slum dwellers in its own land.

He told the court that the Apex Court has prohibited constructions in the limits of FTL and buffer zone of the Lake. The bench told the AG to file the affidavit by explaining the orders of the Supreme Court.
