Madras Presidency to share Cauvery water and said Mysore was pressurised by the Government of India to come to an agreement.
New Delhi: Karnataka on Tuesday questioned in the Supreme Court the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal’s award in giving its nod to the 1892 and 1924 agreements between the then princely State of Mysore and the Madras Presidency to share Cauvery water and said Mysore was pressurised by the Government of India to come to an agreement.
Senior counsel Fali Nariman, appearing for Karnataka, made this submission before a three-judge Bench of Justices Dipak Misra, Amitav Roy and A.M. Kanwilkar, hearing the appeals against the 2007 final award of the Tribunal on allocation of water to Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Union Territory of Puducherry.
