Bengaluru: Police chase, catch robber within an hour of crime

A gang of four robbers had booked a Meru cab from Laggere to the Kempegowda International Airport.

Bengaluru: A team of four policemen attached to the Kengeri station chased and nabbed a robber within a few hours of the offence being committed in Kodigehalli police limits early on Tuesday morning.

A gang of four robbers had booked a Meru cab from Laggere to the Kempegowda International Airport. While passing through Bhadrappa Junction in Kodigehalli police limits around midnight, the accused assaulted the driver, Harish, and robbed Rs 5,000 and his Toyota Etios car.

The driver called up the police control room and informed them about the incident, The Dial 100 staff alerted all police stations and gave the registration number of the stolen car. “The night beat policemen of the Kengeri station Sub-Inspector Nanjundaswamy, ASI Eshwar, Head Constable Kiran and Constable Lokesh spotted the car on Mysuru Road. On seeing the police, the accused tried to escape but the police team chased and intercepted them at Kengeri Satellite bus station around 4.30 am. While one of the accused managed to escape, the team caught an accused, identified as Vinod, 18. The car and the robbed cash of Rs 5,000 were recovered from the accused. They were carrying lethal weapons which were seized. Later, the accused and the seized goods were handed over to the Kodigehalli police,” the police said.
