UP Congress chief submits resignation to Sonia Gandhi
New Delhi: Amid speculations of a reshuffle in Uttar Pradesh Congress ahead of the assembly polls, UPCC president Nirmal Khatri has submitted his resignation to party president Sonia Gandhi.
The changes were expected in the party's state unit after senior leader Ghulam Nabi Azad was appointed in-charge of the UP affairs.
According to sources, the Congress has accepted the resignation of Khatri.
Khatri, former member of Parliament from the Faizabad constituency, was named UP Congress chief in October 2012, after party failed to make a mark in assembly elections.
Meanwhile, Ghulam Nabi Azad is likely to meet Sonia Gandhi today.
The Congress is hoping to bank on Priyanka Gandhi’s personality to woo voters in the State and she is expected to campaign for them in different parts of the state.
Many Congress leaders want Priyanka to get a significant role in the party, however there is no confirmation on whether she will be leading their poll campaign in UP.
