Hyderabad: Three passengers from Wanaparthy in Mahabubnagar district have sustained minor injuries when separatists attacked their bus in Jammu Kashmir. Meanwhile, 600 Amarnath Yatra pilgrims from Andhra Pradesh and 400 from Telangana state remained stranded in Kashmir on Monday due to the ongoing curfew as the Amarnath Yatra remained suspended for the third consecutive day due to the volatile situation created in the state after the encounter of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani.
With the protests against the encounter rocking the state, the Jammu and Kashmir government had suspended the Amarnath Yatra in the state as a precautionary measure. AP and TS governments made arrangements to shift them from the camps to Jammu railway station by Monday evening. Arrangements are also being made at AP and TS Bhavans in New Delhi for their stay.
In New Delhi, Telangana resident commissioner, Mr Shashank Goel told DC that all the Telugu pilgrims were safe and were set to return to their native places by Wednesday. “We are in touch with the chief secretary of the Jammu and Kashmir government. He told us that all pilgrims from the Telugu states were safe and were returning to their native places. We have made transport arrangements from these camps to Jammu from where pilgrims are leaving to their native places. As Jammu got better air, rail and road connectivity with all parts of country, most of the pilgrims are leaving for their homes from there," Mr Goel added.
He, however, claimed that some of them are willing to come to Delhi and want to return to their homes from there. “For them, we made arrangements for accommodation and food,” said the resident commissioner of Telangana. Meanwhile, health minister C. Laxma Reddy, who hails from Mahabubnagar district, inquired about the condition of about 80 pilgrims from the district stranded in Jammu and and Kashmir, following reports of some pilgrims being injured.
“The three pilgrims suffered only minor injuries due to violent incidents there. There is nothing to worry. I spoke to them over phone and they said they were safe and returning to their native places from Jammu. They were provided medicines,” Mr Reddy told this newspaper.
