Telangana: CSE big hit in private tech colleges

The owner of a top engineering college said that CSE and IT were the most sought-after courses in the management quota.

Hyderabad: Some private engineering colleges are offering admission into the the computer science engineering stream under the management quota at Rs 12 lakh for the four-year course.

The owner of a top engineering college said that CSE and IT were the most sought-after courses in the management quota. While the price of each seat in core branches like mechanical, civil and electrical ranges between Rs 2 and Rs 5 lakh, depending upon the college, for CSE it crosses the Rs 10-lakh mark in some colleges.

Seventy per cent of seats in each college are reserved under the convener’s quota and the rest constitutes the management quota, which includes the 15 per cent quota for NRIs.

While the fee for a management quota seat is same as that of a convener quota seat, managements are known to collect extra fees from students for several years. Two months ago, National Association of Software and Services Companies chairman C.P. Gurnani had hinted at nearly 20 per cent drop in IT recruitment next year owing to increased reliance on automation. Artificial intelligence is being used extensively to take care of repeatable tasks minimizing the need for manpower, he had said.

That caution has apparently not mattered much. CSE seats in nearly 60 private colleges will be filled, said the owner of an engineering college. Mr T. Satish Babu, CEO of Hyderabad-based TSB Software Solutions, said the software boom will not decline in the future.

“Now data analytics and data science are the buzz words and there will be job openings for people having specialisation in them. Even the service industry is doing well. So the future is bright for CSE students,” he said.
