Kempapura Junction claims one more life

The deceased has been identified as Subhashini, wife of Mukam Srikanth.

Bengaluru: Another pedestrian’s life was snuffed out at the infamous Kempapura junction early on Monday morning. A 38-year-old woman pedestrian was killed after a speeding car knocked her down near Esteem Mall in the early hours of Monday. The reckless driving is blamed for the accident and efforts are on to nab the accused driver, who did not stop at the spot after the accident, the police said.

The deceased has been identified as Subhashini, wife of Mukam Srikanth. The couple hailed from Gooty taluk in Anantapur. Srikanth is a businessman, while Subhashini was a housewife, the police said.

The incident occurred between 1.45 and 2 am when the couple was crossing the road to board a bus towards Andhra Pradesh. The couple had gone to Hong Kong for a tour and were returning to their hometown Anantapur. After getting down at the Kempegowda International Airport, they had taken a taxi to come to Majestic to board a bus. As the taxi driver told the couple that they could board the bus from Kempapura junction to go to Andhra Pradesh, they got down in front of Esteem Mall, the police said.

The victim’s husband was walking with the luggage a few yards ahead of her, while Subhashini, who also had luggage and was following him, got down from the median and was crossing the road when the speeding cab knocked her down. She sustained severe head injuries and passersby helped Srikanth rush her to a nearby Columbia Asia Hospital, where she died while undergoing treatment around 2.45 am, the police said.
