Karnataka DySP suicide: Many Congress MLAs want Minister KJ George to go

BENGALURU: Worried about potential damage to the state government’s image in the wake of deputy superintendent of police MK Ganapati’s suicide, many Congress legislators want Minister K J George to quit, and are likely to rake up the issue during a meeting of the legislature party on Wednesday.

Though these legislators had no choice but to defend CM Siddaramaiah’s stand inside the legislature, at least a dozen legislators from both upper and lower Houses are worried about inaction on the part of the government against Mr George and top police officers who figure in the complaint lodged by the widow of Mr Ganapati.

These legislators, particularly from Bengaluru and Cauvery basin, seem more worried than those of the ruling party from north Karnataka. Reason: MLAs feel that people in their constituencies are speaking up against the government which was a cause for worry.

“People are talking about how the government has bungled the issue. This issue, in the wake of the video footage, has damaged the image of the government,” legislators added.
