Hyderabad: Expressing dismay at the attitude of the GHMC in allowing erection and display of hoardings, cutouts and flex boards in public places which are causing disturbance to the public, the High Court on Monday told the civic body to examine the feasibility of allowing these in specifically earmarked places in the city.
A division bench, comprising Acting Chief Justice Dilip B. Bhosale and Justice P. Naveen Rao was dealing with a petition by Telangana Vanarula Parirakshana Committee seeking to declare the GHMC's not taking proper care and caution while granting permissions to erect hoarding and flex boards in its limits and collecting improper taxes, as illegal.
The petitioner urged the court to direct the respondents to constitute a high-level committee with technicians and experts to monitor the granting of permissions to erect hoarding and flex boards and collecting of taxes in the GHMC limits.
When the bench sought a response from counsel for the GHMC, he replied that hoardings, flex boards and other material displayed for any specific programme have been diligently removed by the civic body after completion of the said functions.
While making it clear that it will not allow rampant and unauthorised display of cutouts, hoardings and flexes, the bench ordered the GHMC to spell out its stand on regulating unauthorised erection and display of such material by allowing these in places specifically earmarked, by collecting a fee, by the next date of hearing.
