Pvt parties to cart away Thiruvananthapuram waste
Thiruvananthapuram: The city corporation has come up with a new bylaw for roping in private parties for scientific waste collection and disposal of a large quantity of non-household waste being generated in the state capital. The corporation council on Tuesday approved the proposed bylaw which would help prevent dumping of non-household garbage at public places.
The council has also given its nod to rope in 19 private agencies for carting away garbage generated at business establishments, public places, offices, auditoriums and hospitals. Health standing committee chairman Sreekumar said that the technical committee constituted by the corporation had carried out inspections and spot visits to cross-check the claims of all the agencies.
"Our team has gone to the sites to ensure that the agencies have adequate facilities to dispose of garbage scientifically. There are unauthorised parties collecting huge sums and dumping garbage at public places and water bodies. There would be strict colour code for the private trucks transporting garbage," said Mr Sreekumar.
