Only 100 to get Kempegowda Award: Mayor Gangambike

The committee will decide on the different categories - social service, sports, art, etc under which those interested can send their applications.

Bengaluru: The city Mayor Gangambike has assured to restore the prestige associated with BBMP’s Kempegowda award, which of late has been reduced to a joke.

Last year the total number of awardees crossed 500. Even while the function was on, many got entry into the list! The only criteria were that the candidates should be backed by political heavyweights.

This year Gangambike has assured that the total number of awardees will not cross 100 at any cost, and only the deserving will get it after a thorough scrutiny by a selection committee.

The committee will decide on the different categories - social service, sports, art, etc under which those interested can send their applications.

As the last date for submission of the application is June 20, many applications have already reached the BBMP office.

Gangambike told Deccan Chronicle that the selection committee this year will have three experts from various streams to help pick the deserving candidates.

“The selection committee will go through every application and pick up candidates under different categories. Then a list will be prepared by July first week,” she said.

The list of awardees will be handed over to Deputy Chief Minister Dr G. Parameshwar and then the final list of winners will be announced. There will be no addition to it, Gangambike said. She asserted that no applications shall be entertained after the last date.
