Assault was deliberate: COT Nazeer

Nazeer was attacked by three bike-borne assailants at Kayyath road at Thalassery on May 18.

Kannur: CPM rebel leader C.O.T. Nazeer has said that the attack on him recently was a deliberate attempt to murder him.

"Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan's statement that it was an isolated incident is wrong," Nazeer told reporters at Thalassery.

He also refuted the chief minister's statement that the name of A.N. Shamseer, MLA, was not there in the statement of the victim registered by the police. He reiterated his charge that the murder attempt was masterminded by Shamseer.

"The police had recorded my statement thrice and in one of them I stated that I doubted the role of Shamseer in the attack,"he said. But the police were reluctant to give him a copy of the statement even after his repeated demands. "I don't know why the chief minister termed the attack as isolated," he said. "Everybody knows that this is not an isolated case. I had also explained the reasons for Shamseer to conspire against me when police recorded the statement," he added. He planned to approach the High Court against the CPM bid to sabotage the probe, he said.

Nazeer was attacked by three bike-borne assailants at Kayyath road at Thalassery on May 18. They hacked him on his hands, head and stomach while he was riding a scooter. A popular CPM leader at Thalassery, Nazeer was also a member of Thalassery municipality. Later he distanced himself from the CPM and contested against CPM leader P. Jayarajan in the Vadakara Lok Sabha constituency as an independent candidate
