With heavy rains, inflow at Cauvery basin's reservoirs increase drastically

Last year on the same day, it had just received just 22.60mm of rainfall.

Mysuru: With good rains in Wyanad in Keralaa Cauvery catchment area, the inflow into reservoirs in the Cauvery basin has increased drastically especially in Kabini. Also, Kodagu has received double the rainfall it usually receives from January till June.

On Monday, the inflow into Kabini increased to as much as 22,937 cusecs due to good rains in Kodagu while the inflow into KRS dam has increased to 8,478 cusecs. The inflow into Harangi has increased to 4780 cusecs while the inflow into Hemavathi has increased to 9115 cusecs.

On May 30, when the South-West Monsoon began, the inflow into Kabini was 2,405 cusecs, the inflow into KRS was 2,916 cusecs, the inflow into Harangi was 980 cusecs and the inflow into Hemavathi was 2,332 cusecs.

Kodagu has recorded 761.49 mm rain so far from January, while it had recorded just 369.68mm rain during the same period in the previous year. The district received an average of 104.56 mm of rainfall in 24 hours between Sunday and Monday. Last year on the same day, it had just received just 22.60mm of rainfall.

The water level at KRS on Monday was 79.50 feet while the water level on the same day last year was 67.56 feet. The water level at Kabini on Monday was 2,265.72 feet as against its capacity of 2,284 feet. Last year on the same day, the level stood at 2,248.01 feet. At Harangi, the water level on Monday was 2,806.65 feet as against its capacity of 2,859 feet. Last year on the same day, the level stood at 2,808.07 feet.

At Hemavathi, the water level on Monday was 2,874 feet as against its capacity of 2,922 feet. Last year on the same day the water level was 2,852.75feet.

The KRS dam has a live storage of 6.17 TMC as against its capacity of 45.05 TMC, Kabini has 5.84 TMC as against its capacity of 15.67 TMC, Hemavathi has 6.11 TMC as against its capacity of 35.76 TMC, and Harangi has 1.19 TMC as against its capacity of 8.07 TMC as per water resources department sources.
