TN reduces one paper in Language and English for plus 1 and plus 2 board exams

Chennai: Aiming to reduce two exams for overstretched Plus-1 and Plus-2 students studying in state board syllabus, the school education department has merged paper 1 and paper 2 of both English and Language exams for upcoming examinations.

As a result, the Plus-1 and Plus-2 board exams will contain only one paper each for English and Language exams which will reduce the number of exams from existing eight to six.

In a government order issued on Saturday, Pradeep Yadav, principal secretary to the school education department said, “The proposed one exam will include all the topics in Language and English.”

A decision to merge the papers was taken following the representations received from various quarters, the GO said. It also asked the State Council for Educational Research and Training to design the question paper for these two subjects.

The state government has converted the Plus-1 exam as board exam and also reduced the total marks from 1,200 to 600 marks. It also reduced the subject wise marks from 200 to 100 marks.

Now, the state board students have to sit three board exams consecutively in classes 10, 11 and 12. Under these circumstances, the move to reduce the number of exams will provide some relief to the students.
