Sale of MBBS admission application forms begins

Fifteen percent of the seats have been reserved for the all India quota.

Chennai: The sale of application forms for Tamil Nadu MBBS 2018 admissions to all government and self-financing seats for a total 2of ,900 seats in government medical colleges and 783 seats in private colleges began on Monday. Fifteen percent of the seats have been reserved for the all India quota.

Students and parents queued up to buy the forms at all the 30 state-run medical colleges including government medical colleges and self-financing colleges affiliated to the Tamil Nadu Dr MGR Medical University. “On day one of the issue of admission application forms, a total of 17,598 admission application forms were sold across the state including 11,967 application forms for government colleges and 5,631 application forms of management quota. Free application forms were issued to 2,406 eligible candidates across the state,” said Dr G Selvaraj, additional director of Medical Education.

Around 45,000 application forms for government colleges and 25,000 applications for private colleges have been printed by the Directorate of Medical Education, Tamil Nadu. The applications will be issued till 5.00 pm of June 18.

The candidates are required to fill up the MBBS 2018 application form and submit the filled-in applications on or before 5.00 pm on June 19 in order to be eligible to attend the counselling sessions.

“Counter application forms will be distributed at all government medical colleges across the state and can also be downloaded online from the website- www.tnhealth.org and www.tnmedicalselection.org,” added Dr Selvaraj.

Special arrangements are made to maintain the law and order at the centres with city police personnel to ease distribution of application forms.

Banks at the medical colleges have also made arrangements to hasten the process of issuing demand drafts.

A demand draft of Rs 500 favouring The Secretary, Selection Committee, DME, Kilpauk should be submitted by students seeking admission in government colleges. Students applying in private colleges should take DD for Rs 1,000, while there is no fee levied for SC/ST candidates.

The counselling is expected to commence from July 1. The candidates will be granted admissions based on marks obtained in NEET 2018.
