Read guidelines before applying for counselling process
Students aspiring for medical and engineering courses must take utmost care before entering the option registration process. They and their parents must read the guidelines thoroughly before the choice filling process. Any laxity in the online counselling process may affect their aspirations. Students who cleared NEET can try for admission to medical, dental and allied health and agriculture courses. They must have applied for KEAM through www.cee.kerala.gov.in for getting admission for professional colleges in the state. As and when the notification from the commissioner for entrance examinations, Kerala published, they can upload the NEET mark list on its candidate portal.
Based on this, the commissioner will prepare a rank list and candidate can apply through the online counselling process. They can apply for MBBS, BDS, BAMS, BUMS, BSMS, BSc Agriculture, Forestry, BVSc& AH and B.FSc seats in government and self-reliant colleges. Those who are interested in government seats under All India quota of 15 per cent seats can apply through www.mcc.nic.in. They can also apply for medical seats in AFMC, ESI and deemed medical colleges through the same website in separate interface domains. While filling the option registration forms, thorough homework must be done based on last year's rank positions, marks, colleges, fee structure, interest and aptitude of students. Students with lesser marks can opt for colleges with higher fee structure.
There will be only two allotments for medical and dental seats in Government colleges. After the second allotment under All India quota, the remaining seats will be handed over to state quota. After the second allotment in the state, the remaining seats will be filled through spot allotment process. In deemed universities, there will also be a mock-up allotment after the second round, and the remaining seats will be filled from the college based on merit. But for allied health and agriculture seats, there will be 4-5 rounds of counselling. Since admission to medical, dental and allied health and agriculture courses are through NEET, parents and students must not rely on private agencies or intermediaries.
AFMC, Pune, will shortlist 3,000 students based on NEET score of which 2,400 will be boys and 600 girls and conduct aptitude test, group discussion, interview and medical board examinations before final selection. Private colleges outside the states will have their online selection process. Students need to register and apply through their websites. In Karnataka, the selection is through Karnataka entrance authority www.kea.kar.nic.in. Tamil Nadu through www.tnheath.org, www.tnmedicalsection.org, Puducherry-www. centacpuducherry.in, Maharashtra- www.dmer.org, Gujarat-www.bjmc.org Telangana, Andhra Pradesh- www.dmetelangana.gov.in Delhi-www.health.delhigovt.nic.in, Chandigarh- www.gmch.gov.in, Goa- www.dtegoa.gov.in, Haryana- www.haryanahealth.nic.in, Himachal Pradesh- www.hp.gov.in/hpdmer, Rajasthan www.medicaleducation.rajasthan.gov.in, Madhya Pradesh- www.medicaleducation.mp.gov.in, Tripura- www.tripurahealthservices.in, Mizoram- www.healthmizoram.nic.in, Sikkim- www.sikkimhrdd.org, West Bengal www.medicalcollegekolkata.org, Delhi University- www.fmsc.ac.inetc.
A student can apply for any number of colleges. But after joining the college, it will be challenging to get relieved or transfer from the college after the second round of allotment. For example, if a student joins after paying a higher fee in deemed colleges, it will be difficult to move from there after the second allotment. Always opt for a higher option if the student is not happy with the current allocation. For students who are opting for IIT, IIIT and NIT can apply through the website of joint seat allocation authority www.josaa.nic.in. IIT admission is from JEE advanced rank list whereas NIT and IIT admission is from JEE Main rank list. There will be seven rounds of allotment for IITs, NITs and IIITs. NITs will conduct special allotment to fill the vacant seats. Students with JEE Main score can attend special allotment process at the nearest NITs.
There are nearly 40 institutions which will admit candidates based on JEE Main score. Some of the institutions include Indian Institute of Food Technology, Thanjavur, National Institute of Food Technology and Entrepreneurship, Haryana, for B.Tech Food technology programme, etc. Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology, Valiamala, Thiruvananthapuram, will admit students based on JEE advanced and main ranks. The CEE will conduct online counselling for medical, allied health, agriculture and engineering seats. Moreover, there will be the allotment for B.Pharm, Ayurveda and Architecture courses based on separate rank lists. While giving options, always look for the possibility of getting appropriate course and colleges.
Selection to national institutes for architecture including IITs, NITs, etc. will be based on JEE Main second paper ranks through www.josaa.nic.in itself, whereas in the state it will be based on NATA score and the rank list prepared by the CEE. Try to monitor the option websites regularly for updates if any. Once the option is given, it is very difficult to change this in the state. But for All India quota 15 per cent medical seats, students can change the options for the second round of counselling. The ICAR and Veterinary Council of India will make the allocation of the all India quota of 15 per cent in agriculture and veterinary seats based on ICAR UG ranks and NEET ranks respectively. Counselling schedule for B. Tech and integrated PG programmes for Cochin University of Science and Technology is in the process.
