Parents, students throng DPI to buy Plus-1 books

Parents and students from nearby districts like Kancheepuram and Tiruvallur also came to the DPI to buy the textbooks.

Chennai: On the first day of the sales of Plus-1 books, hundreds of parents and students thronged the DPI campus. The state government has revised the syllabus for Plus-1 this year and the books for several key subjects including physics, chemistry, biology and maths will be printed in two volumes. One set of textbooks for maths-biology group costs around Rs 1,000.

The new textbooks included several key features that include QR code, high-quality colour images and new evaluation pattern with a focus on objective type questions.

Parents and students from nearby districts like Kancheepuram and Tiruvallur also came to the DPI to buy the textbooks. “Since Plus-1 was made a board exam, our teachers have already started classes. So, we came here to buy the books,” a student from Ambattur said.

Despite seven counters being set up by the Tamil Nadu Textbook and Educational Services Corporation, students and parents waited as long as an hour to get the books. “An individual student or parent can buy textbooks through online. The books will be delivered within 48 hours at their doorstep. But, many of them chose to buy the books in person,” officials said.

The sales for private schools also started on Monday. After paying the amount, schools can get their textbooks at their designated godowns from all over the state. “Totally we have printed 46.56 lakh free books for government and government-aided school students and 20.42 lakh sales copies for private school students,” officials said.

As far as the free books are concerned, the books have been distributed to the districts and will be handed over to Plus-1 students in a day or two.
