Kochi to have sub centre of Chitranjali

KSFDC has plans to modernise the existing floor and outdoor units.

KOCHI: Plans are afoot to set up a sub centre of Chitranjali studio in Kochi which will have most modern facilities for film-making and post-production, Kerala State Film Development Corporation (KSFDC) chairman Lenin Rajendran said here on Moday. The centre will have a shooting floor, a dubbing studio, pre-mixing and editing facilities, he said while attending a stakeholders' meeting held here to discuss plans on developing Chitranjali studio to a film city.

"Chitranjali studio will be expanded to 42 acres of land and the film workers should submit suggestions on the facilities to be set up here. KSFDC has elaborate plans to modernise the existing floor, outdoor units and mixing theatres at the studio. There are plans to set up pre-fabricated floor which can be changed and can be used for different movies," he said. PricewaterhouseCoopers based in London has been entrusted with preparing a detailed project report of the film city. KIIFB has allocated Rs.150 crore for film city development.

"An expert committee has been formed for the expansion of the studio to a film city. Steps will be taken to ensure the participation of film workers in the administrative matters," said Deepa D Nair, managing director of KSFDC. Meanwhile, film-maker Suresh Kumar urged the KSFDC to set up theatres in places like Kakkanad and Kayamkulam where there are no film screens. The other demands raised by filmmakers in the meeting include increasing subsidy for filmmaking, setting up more facilities for film-making in Kochi, mobile theatre facility and web streaming platform for film screening.
