Two Naxals arrested in Bastar; cache of explosives seized

A 5-kg tiffin bomb, seven gelatin sticks, wire and other materials were recovered from their possession.

Raipur: Two Naxals were on Sunday arrested and explosives recovered from their possession in Chhattisgarh's insurgency-hit Bastar district, police said.

"The cadres, identified as Kumma and Baman, were apprehended from the forests of Darbha police station limits while they were trying to flee along with a tiffin bomb and gelatin sticks to the core forest," Bastar Additional Superintendent of Police Vijay Pandey told PTI.

A squad of state's District Reserve Group (DRG) was on a combing operation from Darbha to its interior forests, located around 450 km from Raipur, he said.

On spotting two suspects between Badanpal and Chandameta villages, the DRG rounded them up after a chase, he said. During interrogation, they admitted to their involvement with the outlawed movement, he said.

Kumma was active as a member of Dandakaranya Adivasi Kisan Majdoor Sangthan - a frontal outfit of the Maoists, while Baman was a janmilitia member, the Additional SP said.

A 5-kg tiffin bomb, seven gelatin sticks, wire and other materials were recovered from their possession, he said. A case has been registered in this connection, he said, adding further probe is on.
