Talks fail, power staff firm on strike

Union leaders made it clear that they would go ahead with their proposed indefinite strike.

Hyderabad: Union leaders made it clear that they would go ahead with their proposed indefinite strike from June 15 after talks between TS Electricity Trade Unions Front and officials of TSTransco and Discoms remained inconclusive on Saturday. The next meeting is scheduled for June 14, with TS energy minister Jagdish Reddy inviting the officials and Union leaders for talks.

“Until we talk with the minister, our plans remain unchanged. We will organise dharnas daily until then,” Union leaders said. The Front comprising 13 various electricity employees unions had served strike notice following which Transco MD D. Prabhakar Rao along with Chairpersons of the Discoms held talks with the Union leaders on Saturday.

While the officials agreed to implement demands that can be solved at their level, they told the union leaders that their main demand of regularisation of employees has to be dealt at the government level. The officials requested the Union leaders to withdraw the strike call.

Their main demands include regularisation of nearly 20,000 contract workers and payment of Rs 25 lakh ex-gratia and job to one of the family members of the deceased if the death occurs while on duty.
