High Court takes notice of Koti hospital conditions

Mr Rao urged the HC to issue directions to the respondents to provide necessary facilities and accommodation for pregnant women.

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad High Court has suo motu taken up a case with regard to the pathetic conditions prevailing in the maternity hospital at Koti, Hyderabad. Justice U. Durga Prasad Rao had written a letter to the Chief Justice after noticing certain photographs in newspapers with regard to the hell-like situation faced by women, particularly pregnant women, who are forced to stay in the open place under trees, and are facing trouble anticipating treatment in the maternity hospital at Koti.

The judge in his letter stated that hundreds of people, particularly women, visit the hospital daily but the authorities have failed to provide minimum facilities and accommodation for the pregnant women who came for childbirth. He urged the High Court to issue directions to the respondents to provide necessary facilities and accommodation for pregnant women.
