Senior bureaucrat demands pass, shunted to railways

The ACC curtailed the central deputation of Mr Gopal Krishan Gupta, and approved his premature repatriation to his parent cadre, the railways.

New Delhi: A senior bureaucrat who sought complimentary passes for IPL matches from the Delhi District Cricket Association faced action from the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) on Friday. The ACC curtailed the central deputation of Mr Gopal Krishan Gupta, and approved his premature repatriation to his parent cadre, the railways.

The ACC which is headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, did not mention the reason behind Mr Gupta’s repatriation from the ministry of new and renewable energy where he was posted as joint secretary. Mr Gupta is a 1987 batch officer of the Indian Railway Service of Mechanical Engineers.

Mr Gupta purportedly wrote a letter to DDCA president Rajat Sharma’s office in March seeking complementary passes of an IPL match. When he did not get a response, Mr Gupta wrote on April 3 in which he mentioned about his telephonic conversation between Mr Sharma’s executive assistant Sapna Soni and his personal staff. “I do not know whether this episode has been brought to your notice... and my request for arrangement of passes,” Mr Gupta wrote in his letter to Mr Sharma. “May I request that your office staff may show courtesy in such matters and give timely feedback even if the response is not affirmative. I think, we must have mutual respect for the positions being held by us,” Mr Gupta wrote.
