CCTV transformed policing system; Police chief AK Vishwanathan
Chennai: Releasing a compact disc of a short film, Third Eye, on the importance of installing CCTV, the city police commissioner A.K.Vishwanathan said the CCTV cameras have reduced the work stress of police officers.
Police Commissioner A.K. Viswanathan on Saturday reiterated that installation of closed circuit television cameras (CCTV) will ensure safety for all. Releasing a compact disc of a short film, Third Eye, on the importance of installing CCTV, he appealed to people to install them in houses. Bringing the entire city under CCTV surveillance is an obligation. Moreover, the installation of such gadgets is essential since it is useful to deter and detect criminals. He said a CCTV camera was installed every 50 meters in the city.
Speaking at the function, Grandmaster Viswanathan Anand expressed happiness that the Chennai police efforts to bring the city under CCTV surveillance has increased effective policing in the city while emerging as a major deterrent and a "checkmate" for the criminals. "CCTV coverage has become real checkmate for the criminals", he said, responding to the Chennai police stats that showed the number of crimes coming down from 615 in 2017 to 443 in 2018 and a mere 82 up to end of April this year.
