Bengaluru: ‘Suspicious’ man at Majestic Metro station traced

The police said the metal detector beeped as it had detected an amulet on his waist and a few coins in his pocket.

Bengaluru: The city police on Saturday put to rest speculations about the second 'suspicious' man who refused to enter the Majestic metro station after the door frame metal detector beeped and he had to beat a hasty retreat.

While the police had earlier identified one person named Riyas Ahmed (49) and cleared the air about him being 'suspicious', they have now tracked the other 'suspicious' person Sajid Khan (38), hailing from Rajasthan.

He had refused to enter the station after the metal detector beeped aloud and he fled, creating a scare among other passengers.

The four teams formed by city Police Commissioner T. Suneel Kumar tracked Khan at R.T. Nagar, who according to police had come to the city to collect zakat donations from people.

Khan told police that he had never seen metro train and was eager to take a ride. He visited the metro station from East Gate and while passing through metal detector, he heard a loud beep.

Khan panicked and immediately left the station. As he walked away hurriedly, people got suspicious, the police said.

The police said the metal detector beeped as it had detected an amulet on his waist and a few coins in his pocket. While the police clarified that there was nothing suspicious about Khan, they have detained him for further questioning.

Meanwhile the police are investigating who shared the CCTV footage to the media without verifying with the police and created panic in the city.
