Kerala Congress (M) in a fix over support in Chengannur by-election
Kottayam: The Kerala Congress (M) chairman K.M. Mani ruled out any differences of opinion within the party over supporting either of the fronts in the upcoming Chengannur byelection, even as no consensus evolved on this during the crucial steering committee meeting on Friday. A nine-member sub-committee has been constituted to study about various issues pertaining to Chengannur bypoll, Mr Mani told reporters here. “The final decision regarding the party’s stance in Chengannur bypolls will be taken within one week after expert consultations,” he said, and termed the alleged rifts within the party as "whim and fancy of media".
However, sources say that differences are rife within the party with P.J. Joseph and Mons Joseph strictly opposing extending support to LDF. Meanwhile, delegates from Alappuzha are of the opinion that the party shouldn't back the UDF as it once tried to destroy K.M. Mani over bar bribery case. Jose K. Mani, MP, and son of K.M. Mani reminded the partymen of the decision taken at Charalkunnu camp that favoured the party quitting UDF. He asked if it is fair to establish relations with the front which once cheated them, sending a strong message to P.J. Joseph and Mons Joseph.
