Kalayil Mathew murder case: DNA test proves murder clincher

Mathew bumped off, buried under building.

Kottayam: The bones recovered from beneath a building at Thalayolaparambu in 2016 are that of Kalayil Mathew, 53, of Thalayolaparambu who was murdered in 2008 by Anish of Vaikom TV Puram, following financial disputes. This has been confirmed by the DNA test of the bones conducted at the forensic sciences laboratory in Thiruvananthapuram. The test report was received recently, Vaikom DySP K. Subhash told DC.

The police had earlier failed to locate Mathew's body and closed it as a man-missing case. Later, Anish's father confessed to Naisy, Mathew's daughter, over phone that his son had committed the murder. Naisy recorded the phone conversation and complained to the police. The accused also confessed it before the Mallapally police who interrogated him in connection with a fake note case. In the subsequent interrogation, Anish revealed that he had buried Mathew's body at the site of the building which was under construction. The police found the remains from the spot and sent them for the DNA test.
