9 including 7 of family killed as cars collide at Perambalur

Police removed all the nine bodies to Government hospital.

PERAMBALUR: In a horrifying road accident, at least nine persons including seven members of a family- four of whom women-, were killed when two cars collided against each other on the outskirts of Perambalur town on the busy Tiruchy-Chennai National highway around midnight on Thursday.

Police said the deceased were identified as Mohan (39), and his wife Lakshmi (32), daughters Pavithra (13), Naveetha (10), son Varadharajan (5), their relatives Murali (56) and Megala (17) besides two car drivers Prabhakaran and Bhoopathy. The former was a spare driver accompanying them, while Bhoopathy was at the wheel when the mishap occurred.

Mohan, owner of a silk loom unit at Chinna Kancheepuram, his family members and relatives were on their way in their car to Thekkady for a brief summer vacation, when another car coming in the opposite direction and proceeding towards Pennadam collided with the former.

The second car was driven by an ex-serviceman Sakthisaravanan who lost control of the wheel, hit the centre median and then dashed against the car ferrying members of the deceased family. Police removed all the nine bodies to Government hospital.
