Telangana: Stay on fee hike for PG seats

Hyderabad: In a relief to those aspiring for post graduate medical admissions in Telangana state, a vacation bench of the Hyderabad high court on Thursday granted a stay on the GO issued by the state government hiking the fee structure for the convener and management quota seats.

A division bench comprising Justice Challa Kodandaram and Justice N Balayogi, while dealing with a PIL moved as a lunch motion challenging the GOs issued by the government, directed the authorities to allow the students pay the old fee.

The bench made it clear that the ongoing counselling for the admissions shall go on and the college managements shall also accept the old fee and allow the students to join the colleges.

Arjun Reddy, counsel appearing for the petitioners, submitted that as per the old structure, admission fee for MD/Ms courses in convener quota was Rs 3.20 lakh and Rs 5.80lakh under the management quota. Now the government increased the fee abnormally by fixing Rs 6.90lakh for convener quota and Rs 24 lakh for management quota.

He said that the due to the multi-fold increase in fee structure, several students would be deprived of the post graduate medical education. While staying the GOs issued for hiking the fee structure, the bench issued notices to the respondents, directing them to file the counter affidavits in four weeks. The bench said that the fee would be subject to the final outcome of the PIL.
