Tamil Nadu: Notice to higher education secretary on physical directors
CHENNAI: A petition has been filed in Madras high court seeking to quash the government order dated April 28, 2017, for recruitment of physical directors in government polytechnic colleges and special institutions.
When the petition filed by 40 assistant professors in Physical Education and Sports and Sciences in Annamalai University, came up for hearing before the vacation court judge Justice S.M. Subramaniam, he judge ordered notice to secretary of higher education department and file reply before June 5.
The petitioners R. Lakshmi Krishnan of Chidambaram taluk, Cuddalore, and 39 others submitted that they were appointed as assistant professors in physical education and sports sciences in Annamalai University and working for more than 10 years.
According to them, due to mismanagement of the erstwhile administration, Annamalai University was taken over by the state government. The government constituted a committee to examine its financial position and to make recommendations. The committee recommended deputing surplus teaching and non-teaching staff of Annamalai University to other universities.
The petitioners sought for a direction to appoint them in the existing vacancies to the post of assistant professors in physical education in various government universities and university constituent colleges.
