Salem farm labourer killed in elephant attack

His body has been sent for post-mortem to the Satyamangalam Government hospital.

Salem: A 48-year-old farm labourer was trampled to death by a wild elephant at Kadambur forest near Satyamangalam in Erode district.

Police said that Achuthampuri from Arikkiam village took his livestock into the forest for grazing on Wednesday morning. “When he did not return in the evening, his family members went in search, but couldn’t find him anywhere.

On Thursday, people found him lying dead with injuries and informed Kadambur police and PN Palayam forest department,” police said.

During the course of examination, forest department staff found the footprints of an elephant at the spot and arrived at the decision that an elephant had attacked the farmer.

His body has been sent for post-mortem to the Satyamangalam Government hospital.
