Residents protest GHMC shock

The residents stood with placards highlighting the GHMC's negligence.

Hyderabad: After the death of a man who was repairing a storm water drain in Jyotinagar. Malkajgiri, the repair work has been stalled and Tuesday’s rain made the situation worse.

Residents on Thursday protesting against the laxity of the GHMC and the danger to their own lives as a result of the dangerously incomplete work. The residents stood with placards highlighting the GHMC’s negligence.

Mr Daniel James said, “The open trench is located adjacent to TS Seeds Corporation. Even after his JCB driver fell into the trench, the contractor, Chandra Shekar Reddy, did not complete the work. On Tuesday, Malkajgiri received 6 cm of rainfall and due to the open trench water entered the colony. We informed the GHMC's divisional officer. However, to date the work hasn't been completed.”

The workers have done a shabby job; soil has been dumped on the roadside. They have constructed retaining walls and broken them down later, and none of the concrete waste has been cleared.

The driver of the JCB, Tagaram Mallesh, was digging the trench to widen the storm water drain when the retaining wall collapsed on him as the soil was soft. Another worker was injured.
