CHENNAI: Madras high court has granted interim stay on an order of Mylapore tahsildar, who ordered status quo in connection with Chintadripet fish market purchased by J.M. Imran Khan, son of former MP J.M. Haroon.

When a petition filed by J.M. Imran Khan challenging the order passed by the tahsildar dated May 6, 2017 came up for hearing Justice M.S. Ramesh granted stay and ordered notice to the government.

The judge also ordered notice to all the tenants, who are all the members of Chintadripet Fish and Perishable Products Traders Society.

The Chintadripet fish market building was purchased by the petitioner from the previous owners for Rs 5.50 crores in an auction and sale deed was registered on May 3, 2017. The auction was conducted by State Bank of India towards the debt received by the old owners of the property.

A civil suit regarding the property has been posted for hearing on June 4, 2017. Meanwhile, Mylapore tahsildar on May 6, 2017, passed a status quo order, which prevented the petitioner from entering the property and to see its condition. As an interim measure he sought for an interim stay on the order of tahsildar.
