Chennai colleges gear up for admissions, go online

The college last year had given the options both online and offline for students.

Chennai: With plus-2 results set to be released today, city colleges are gearing up for hectic admissions season.

Many colleges are opting for online applications this year. For example, Ethiraj College for Women has made whole admission process online. “This time we are going completely online. We have enabled the students’ access from Wednesday. From registering applications to the final list everything will be done online,” said A. Nirmala, principal of the college.

The college last year had given the options both online and offline for students. “The submission of online forms will start from Friday. A majority of applicants will be from the state board and CBSE board. The last date for submission of applications is not decided,” she said.

Loyola too has gone completely online. “We introduced online applications to make the admission process paperless. Once the plus-2 results are released we will enable our online applications,” said Loyola College principal M. Arockiasamy Xavier.

The Pachaiyappa’s College is also issuing applications online this year. “We are issuing both online and offline applications. Printed applications are being issued as we admit a large number of rural students. So far, 1,000 applications have been sold,” said S. Kaliraj, principal of the college, which will conduct UG counselling on May 29, 30. Second phase counselling will be held on June 5 and 6.

Government Arts and Science colleges also started issuing applications. The newly established government college in Perumbakkam also started giving applications from May 10. The college is offering five courses.
