Visvesvaraya Technological University: Hundreds not paid salary

Prof. Sridhar who took over as new VC of VTU, faces a daunting task in bringing the university back on track.

Belagavi: The pressure being exerted by Raj Bhavan on VTU which saw most of its top officials including the vice-chancellor and registrar exit from the university in the last few weeks, has put the university in a deep crisis even as new VC, Prof. V Sridhar assumed charge on Tuesday. Hundreds of its employees have not been paid their salaries last month nor is the university prepared to hold the upcoming examinations for engineering courses.

Prof. Sridhar who took over as new VC of VTU, faces a daunting task in bringing the university back on track. Officials of Raj Bhavan reportedly did not allow the university to function smoothly pressurising former VC H.G. Shekharappa and Registrar K.E. Prakash for the last few weeks that prevented the university from holding major programmes. Raj Bhavan got the VTU's convocation announced by Prof. Shekharappa cancelled which forced the latter to resign from the VC's post last week.

According to employees of VTU, they have never seen the university in such a bad phase in the last 18 years. “No preparations have been made to hold examinations for engineering courses in the last week of May due to the intervention of Raj Bhavan officials that led to the exit of many top officials. The students are doubtful about VTU holding examinations on time,'' say sources.
