Modi pricks Mallu pride, Kerala can't stop trolling

Reactions on Twitter from a state, where the Prime Minister's party has never won a seat were scathing.

The one thing you don’t do, is tell the Keralite, who prides himself on his state's Human Development Index that Kerala is no better than sub-Sahara.

That too, Somalia — synonymous with starvation and death, and emaciated children begging for food.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s faux pas on Sunday while electioneering in the country’s most literate state, comparing Kerala's infant mortality rate with Somalia, saw CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury defend God’s Own Country on Twitter. “Somalia’s HDI is 0.285 (ranking: 229), Kerala’s is 0.712. India’s ONLY high HDI state, it’d rank 104 globally. So much for the comparison.” Yechury, didn't name the PM.

Oooh! But reactions on Twitter from a state, where the Prime Minister’s party has never won a seat were scathing. Tweeple used Malayalam superstar Mohanlal's 'Po mone Dinesha' in his hit movie Narasimham to troll Modi's comment, using the hashtag #pomoneModi - which roughly translates as- ‘get lost, kid’.
