Anantapur: Chaos among students as institutes not ready
Anantapur: The delay over the establishing of national level institutions as part of post bifurcation programmes is creating chaos for students and also hurting the sentiments of those people who suffered due to the unscientific manner in which it was done two years ago.
With the state's division and most of the prestigious educational and research institutes like Central University and the Agriculture University going to Telangana, under the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Bill, 2014, the Centre sanctioned 11 national-level institutions, like IIM, AIIMS, IIIT, IIT, IISC, NIT, and petroleum, tribal and agriculture universities to the state. But none of them have taken shape in the 13 districts in the state.
It is being said that poor coordination between the Centre and state government was causing the delay, with even the process of identifying suitable sites not having been completed. The higher authorities at Centre caused some confusion when they said in a statement that a Tribal Varsity would be established at Anantapur for which land had been identified, when in fact, this has been listed for Uttar Andhra.
Municipal administration minister P. Narayana declared a year ago that the process of establishing the institutes in the state should be speeded up, but a majority of them are delayed in the absence of clearances from the Centre.
The Central University’s existence in Hyderabad got the Centre to sanction a new varsity for the state at Anantapur. There was land available at Reddypalli, which was owned by the Prison Department, but no steps were taken to establish Central University.
CPI state secretary K.Ramakrishna alleged that two years had passed in identifying land. "Special Category Status was denied, but even the sanctioned institutions are not attaining shape.”
