Tirupati: Party workers’ clash leaves man dead

The elderly man was trying to get his son out of trouble.

Tirupati: A YSR Congress sympathiser identified as D.R. Venkatarami Reddy, 66, was killed during a conflict between activists of Telugu Desam and YSRC at T. Sadum village in Peddathippa Samudram Mandal of Chittoor district under Thamballapalle constituency on the poll day, Thursday.

According to the locals, following allegations of rigging at the polling station in the village at around 1 pm, YSRC activists attempted to storm the polling station where they were assaulted by the TD activists who pelted stones at them. During the assault, the victim D.R. Venkatarami Reddy fainted while trying to rescue his son who was struck in the clashing mob.

The victim took his last breathe while he was being shifted to hospital for treatment. It was said that someone from the mob hit him with a stone on the chest because of which the victim got a heart stroke and died within minutes after the incident. Activists from both parties sustained injuries in the assault. With the interfered of the police, the situation was brought under control and polling continued. T. Sadum is the native village of TD MLA G. Shankar who is looking for a re-election from here.

In Chandragiri assembly constituency from where the YSRC sitting legislator Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy faces challenge from TD candidate Pulivarthi Nani, the YSRC activists scoured the vehicle belonging to the spouse of the TD candidate at Tummalagunta, the native of YSRC candidate, after the polling ended on Thursday.

Meanwhile, tension prevailed as the clash broke out between Telugu Desam and YSR Congress activists at Bandarlapalli of Puthalapattu constituency on the polling day.

The activists of both the parties has involved in fist fighting and jolted with each other, in which few sustained severe injuries.
