VIJAYAWADA: Assembly Speaker Kodela Sivaprasada Rao reportedly tried to capture a booth at Inimetla to rig the polling in favour of the Telugu Desam but angry YSR Congress cadres and villagers foiled the bid and tried to beat him up.
The police entered intervened and shifted him to safety.
Apparently hearing reports that YSRC candidate Ambati Rambabu and his cadre was well organised in the village in Rajupalem mandal, the Speaker and his supporters forcibly pulled out Opposition agents from the booth, entered the room and bolted it from inside.
Mr Rao later fainted at the spot.
