Hyderabad: Voting at 17 parliamentary constituencies in Telangana has concluded in a single phase on Thursday at 6 pm. No untoward incidents were reported during the polls, including at the extremist affected areas and the critical polling stations across the state.
The state police have credited the public for cooperating with the election authorities and the security forces for conducting an incident-free election.
Around 85,000 police personnel, including those from the central armed police force and the police from 5 other states, were deployed on the day.
Nizamabad, which was marked as a critical constituency with about 177 farmers filing nominations for the parliamentary constituency, saw voting till 6 pm. Polling in the extremist affected areas concluded by 4 pm and at the other polling stations across the state concluded by 5 pm.
Director General of Police M. Mahendar Reddy said that the polling across the state has been peaceful, without a single untoward incident. All necessary measures were taken to ensure that voting did not get affected.
The state police department has deployed three-tier security at the strongrooms to prevent damage to the EVMs. The EVMs from all the 34,603 polling stations were shifted to strong rooms after tallying them at the reception centres. They will be kept untouched till the day of the counting of the votes i.e. 23rd May.
“The election authorities in each district and the returning officers will supervise the shifting of the EVMs to the strong rooms.”
