Adilabad: Adivasis reject cash offered for votes

Some Adivasis linked electing a candidate in the Lok Sabha elections to creating a platform to protect their rights.

ADILABAD: In several Adivasi villages in Tribal areas, Adivasis reportedly rejected the money offered, seeking their votes, by some party leaders as part of the election campaign in Adilabad Lok Sabha.

It was learnt that the villagers told the leaders who visited their villages not to influence them and were capable enough to vote according to their choice.

Some Adivasis linked electing a candidate in the Lok Sabha elections to creating a platform to protect their rights. This happened in the villages in Utnoor mandal on Wednesday night just one day before the polling date — April 11.

The same happened in the villages in Tiryani mandal in Kumarambheem Asifabad district.

A senior political leader, who went to Adivasi gudems with cash, returned with disappointment since the villagers rejected cash offered to them for votes.

The villagers asked the political leaders, who came to their villages with money, to leave the place immediately or to face the ire of the local people.

These incidents are being attributed to the decision the villagers to vote for a particular leader of their community contesting in the Lok Sabha.

These incidents reflect the increased awareness levels about the importance of vote among the Adivasis who cast their votes, to their choice, without any influence.
