Hyderabad: Do or die, residents tell SCB
Hyderabad: With Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman convening a crucial meeting on April 30 to discuss various issues in Cantonments across the country, residents of Secunderabad Cantonment were busy serving an ultimatum to elected representatives to find a permanent solution to road closure problem during the meeting.
“Do or Die” was the message to politicians from people facing hardships from more than three years as a result of closure of or restrictions on nearly 15 roads in Secunderabad Cantonment limits.
Pankaj Sethi, a resident of Yapral, said, “Rules for closure of roads in all Cantonments across the country are same. Secunderabad Cantonment is not an exception to this. MPs and SCB vice-president should make the Minister understand how Section 258 of Cantonments Act was ignored completely and request her to intervene to bring relief to over one-sixth of population of state capital affected by closure of roads,” he said.
C. S. Chandrashekar, secretary of Federation of North Eastern Colonies of Secunderabad felt politicians were likely to face the music in the next elections if they continued to ignore people's woes due to illegal closure of roads in the Cantonment.
N. Venkataramana from Triumulgherry appealed to the local MP and other leaders expected to attend the meet to put up a strong case before Ms Sitharaman and ensure roads were reopened. A few said that if politicians failed to voice sentiments of the people properly, they need not come for door-to-door visit to seek votes during elections. Several affected people took to social media on Wednesday to let their voices be heard.
