Hyderabad: Some questions of Set B Physics paper of JEE Mains 2018 exam paper are allegedly similar to a model paper issued by Narayana IIT academy of 2016.
In JEE Main, there are four sets of question papers, numbered A to D. The questions are the same except their order and the order of the options given, are different. Reportedly, 7-8 questions of the Physics section in the paper were similar to those in one test series booklet of Narayana IIT coaching.
Question one and two from Narayana IIT academy model was the same as question 24 and 28 in the Physics section of Set-B. Similarly, question 5 and 6 of Narayana IIT academy model paper was the same as question 23 and 16 in the physics section of SET-B.
Question seven of the model paper was similar to question 22 in the physics section of SET-B. Question number eight of the model paper was the same as question number 30 in physics SET-B.
Sashidhar Bandari, director, Krishnamurthi IIT Academy, told this newspaper: “To avoid such incidents CBSE should come up with original questions, just like every year the Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT) prepare original question papers. Once, the JEE-entrance had a question from a model paper from our coaching institute. One or two questions are acceptable but seven or eight questions are not acceptable and not correct. The National Testing Agency (NTA) which is coming up soon will be really helpful in avoiding such incidents.”
However, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has denied copying the question paper from the coaching institute.
An official spokesperson of the CBSE said: "The JEE question papers are prepared in original by over 100 item writers. These item writers are subject experts.
They prepare over 1,500 items over a period of two months during the year of the exam. All these questions are prepared by the item writers in original and they are handwritten. After that, 90 questions are drawn randomly and 8-9 sets are created.
Any one set is randomly picked for use in JEE. The said seven to eight questions were prepared in original by seven different item writers and were handwritten.
After this the moderator made many handwritten changes too. Following this, the vetter also made handwritten changes. The final handwritten version was ready only about 2-3 months back, after which it was sent to the confidential printer.
“It is indeed very strange that handwritten changes in all these seven questions that CBSE has record of, appear exactly in the question paper claiming to belong to a particular coaching institute and also claiming to be two years old.
CBSE reiterates that all these 7-8 questions were originally written only about two to three months back and they cannot and could not have figured in any model paper by any coaching institution two years back. There is an atmosphere of falsity and rumour-mongering being deliberately perpetuated against a prestigious organisation like CBSE. CBSE appeals to all not to pay heed to such falsities,” the chief spokesperson added.
