Tamil Nadu: Anna Salai shows a crack again

The crack was noted within ten metres of the spot where the road had caved in on Tuesday morning.

Chennai: Two days after a portion of Anna Salai near Church Park School bus stop caved in, a small crack about 10 metres in length, developed on Tuesday too, disrupting traffic for more than two hours. The crack was noted within ten metres of the spot where the road had caved in on on Tuesday morning. City police and Chennai Metro Rail Limited officials, who rushed to the spot, said that the crack may be due to the impact of Sunday’s road cave-in. “The crack identified at the cave-in spot was due to the tunnelling work. We would clear it at the earliest,” said a metro rail official.

The incident had left the entire stretch from Saidapet to Spencer Plaza in a gridlock till Tuesday afternoon. Expressing his disappointment, motorist T.N. Hari said, “We are fed up of false assurances. Such accidents in the proximity of sensitive areas like schools are unfortunate.”
