Noted writers to be part of Book Day celebrations

In the first such celebration in the city, around 50 publishers will put up stalls at Anna Centenary Library.

CHENNAI: This year the directorate of public libraries is planning to celebrate World Book Day on April 23 by inviting the award-winning writers to the celebrations in all the districts. Sahitya Akademi Award winning writers like Prapanchan, Su Venkatesan to participate in this year’s celebration.

“All the district central libraries will have writers as special guests in their book day celebrations. There will also be painting, essay writing and storytelling competitions for children,” said S. Kannappan, director (in charge), Public Libraries and Director of School Education. Around 50 publishers will put up book stalls on the occasion of world book day at Anna Centenary Library. This exhibition will go on for about a week.

The Tamil Nadu Textbook Corporation and Educational Services Corporation have printed over 4,000 copies of “Araneri Saram” loosely translated as the “Essence of Righteousness” for distributing to the public libraries. The book contains the compilation of moral lessons from Tirukkural. Officials believe that this book can improve the moral values of the general public.
