Lack of funds kills ambulance service in Hyderabad
Hyderabad: Blue Cross Hyderabad will no longer be able to offer ambulance services for animal rescues. With 20 rescues per dy, the Blue Cross shelter has become over-crowded and its financial resources stretched, leading to this decision.
Chairperson Amala Akkineni has requested people to use the 17 government veterinary hospitals and GHMC shelters in the city.
Blue Cross started operations under a tree, with a phone and an ambulance donated by Akkineni Nagarjuna. After 24 years in service of animals, Blue Cross Hyderabad has sadly announced that it cannot run the animal rescue ambulance service anymore.
This decision was taken by the management as there seems to be no way to expand the capacity of the shelter.
Ms Akkineni said, “With 20 rescues per day, our shelter began to get crowded. This has been the case for the last two years and there was no alternative to expand capacity. We also experienced mounting pressure on our expenditure outlay and dwindling financial resources began to affect operations. This led the management to put off bringing animals into our shelter until further notice.”
She added, “We are shifting our focus and resources to training and stray animal birth control from April 2017. In case anyone has an injured animal for treatment, use our community sponsored clinic between 9 am and 12 pm. First aid training dates can be verified from our website.”
