Hyderabad: Dead US techie G. Madhukar Reddy’s relatives allegedly attacked his wife Swati as his last rites were going on. The attackers started beating her alleging that she drove Madhukar to suicide.
G. Swati, who approached the Bhongir police, alleged that she was falsely accused and is facing death threats. Police launched an investigation against Madhukar Reddy’s relatives.
The body of Madhukar Reddy, who committed suicide at his home at Seattle in the US on April 3, arrived in Hyderabad early on Tuesday morning. His wife Swati had accompanied the body. Madhukar’s body was cremated at his family’s farmhouse in Bhongir in the afternoon.
Earlier, Madhukar’s family had alleged that Swati was the reason for Madhukar's depression and that he had committed suicide due to that. They alleged that Madhukar never came to visit his parents in India after his marriage with Swati, as she did not allow him to go. When Swati arrived at Madhukar’s house with the body, his relatives started abusing her and attacked her. “They beat me with their hands and hit me repeatedly on the head,” she told the police.
Swati also revealed that her husband Madhukar Reddy was suffering from depression even at the time of marriage. “He had problems at the time of our marriage. When I understood that he was not normal I told my parents. But they were also not ready to listen,” said Swati.
Madhukar, a software engineer from Bhongir, committed suicide at his house in Seattle in the United States. While the reason for the death has not been confirmed, his relatives said that 37-year-old Madhukar was reportedly depressed by marital disputes.
Madhukar had recently bought a new house in Seattle and had moved in. A BITS Pilani alumni, Madhukar had been working in an MNC in the US since seven years. His wife, Swathi, also is a software engineer in Seattle.
Swati has sought police protection. She alleged that she might be attacked by Madhukar’s family again.
