Hyderabad: Man hides gold in electric iron
Officials said the gold bars weighed 247 grams and are worth Rs 7.22 lakh.
Hyderabad: An air passenger who was trying to smuggle in gold by concealing it in electric iron boxes was detained by customs at the RGI Airport here on Tuesday. The officials seized 247 grams of gold worth around Rs 7.22 lakh.
Customs officials said the air intelligence unit received a tip off, and based on that they identified a passenger who came from Dubai on Indigo Airlines flight 6E 025. Customs intercepted him while he was moving towards the green channel.
He said that he was not carrying dutiable goods but on checking officials found two electric iron boxes and gold bars concealed in it.
Officials said the gold bars weighed 247 grams and are worth Rs 7.22 lakh. He was taken into custody and the gold was seized.
