Chandrababu Naidu bats for backward communities welfare schemes in AP

He also explained to them the statistics regarding the quantum of cash earmarked for various welfare measures for the backward communities.

Visakhapatnam: Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu took up cudgels for the backward communities on Tuesday, while participating in social reformer Jyotirao Phule’s 191st birth anniversary celebrations at the Convocation Hall of Andhra University of Visakhapatnam.

He said that the state government intends to revive the ‘Adarana’ scheme to extend financial assistance to the backward classes to continue their traditional occupations.

Mr Naidu said that this BC segment has been the backbone of the party since its inception. “The TD government had introduced a slew of measures aimed at uplifting the social and financial status of backward communities. It was the Congress party who suppressed the backward communities in its 10-year rule. In the last three years, we did more than what was offered to backward communities during the Congress regime’s 10-year rule. Our major focus is on educating the children as a permanent solution to solve all their problems. Besides extending fee reimbursement for all the courses, students from the backward communities can avail of Rs 10 lakh assistance to pursue higher education in foreign countries under the ‘Videshi Vidya Deevana’. We have been offering financial assistance to those who want to be trained free of cost for various UPSC and APPSC exams under ‘NTR Vidyonnati’,” said Mr Naidu.

On this occasion, Mr Naidu interacted with several students, who had benefited under ‘NTR Vidyonnati’ as well as ’Videshi Vidya Deevana’, and asked them how the schemes have been helping them. He also explained to them the statistics regarding the quantum of cash earmarked for various welfare measures for the backward communities.

Meanwhile, BC welfare minister K. Atchannaidu said that the proposed inclusion of Kapus in the BC list doesn’t affect the existing communities. Speaking at social refor-mer Jyotirao Phule’s 191st birth anniversary celebrations, Mr Atchannaidu said that Opposition parties were politicising the issue by instigating both BCs as well as Kapus.
