Hyderabad: Reality fire stunt kills teen
Hyderabad: A 19-year-old youngster died on Saturday night while undergoing treatment at Osmania General Hospital for burns suffered while trying to imitate fire stunts he had seen on a reality TV show.
Md Jalaluddin, an Inter-mediate student and a resident of Jahanuma, was inspired by India’s Got Talent, a reality show on Colors channel. On April 7, he took his friends to a nearby hillock in Falak-numa and asked them to record his stunts on mobile phone cameras. But the stunt went wrong and most of his friends ran away as his clothes caught fire. People from a nearby mosque took him to hospital.
Falaknuma police said that Jalaluddin had suffered close to 60 per cent burns, especially on his chest. According to his relatives, Jalaluddin got a bottle of kerosene on the afternoon of April 7 and called his friends, most of whom were teenagers younger than him.
“He made a torch using cloths and wood. Before going to the hillock, he performed stunts in the street corner few metres away from his home. He took kerosene in his mouth and spewed it out while holding the burning torch before his face. The stunt was successful and he blew fire from his mouth without getting hurt,” said one of Jalaluddin’s neighbours.
