‘Shaheen Bagh’ in Coimbatore suspended for five days

The indefinite protest was being held in the open space adjacent to the Irshadul Islam Shafia Sunnath Jamath mosque in Coimbatore

Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu: The Shaheen Bagh model protest in Athupalam, Coimbatore, against the controversial Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) has been decided to be halted for five days.

The indefinite protest in the open space adjacent to the Irshadul Islam Shafia Sunnath Jamath mosque in Coimbatore began on February 19th, organised by various Islamic organisations and Muslim-centric parties.

Modelled after Delhi’s Shaheen Bagh protest, the protestors have been chanting slogans against CAA and waving the tricolour flag.

Earlier, the protestors had said that the agitation would be continued with same vigour until the Centre repealed the CAA, which grants citizenship to Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, Parsis, Buddhists, and Christians from Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh who came to India on or before December 31, 2014.
